Cut tree: Store your purchased tree in a cool place in a container filled with water. We recommend cutting off a small piece of the trunk covered with resin so that water can penetrate the tree. You will see that a tree with a fresh cut will absorb approximately 5 liters of water, keeping it fresh for longer. If you have a stand with water for the tree, the bark of the tree must reach the water. It must not be trimmed, because the tree absorbs water through the tissue under the bark.
Potted tree: Move the tree from outside to a place with a higher temperature of 5 to 10 °C (basement, garage) and leave it there for a few days, then move it to a hallway or an unheated room in your home with a temperature of 15 to 18 °C. The tree should be kept in a heated room in the apartment for as short a time as possible and, of course, watered. After Christmas, move the tree back in reverse order and leave it at a temperature of 1 to 5 °C until spring. Move the tree outside only when there is no risk of late frost. Even if you follow these steps, the tree may not survive because it cannot cope with the temperature difference.
